Our latest partnership with Brookings Institution makes world class scholarship accessible to CCSD students.

On May 1st, this year, Dawson Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning inaugurated our partnership with UNLV and the prestigious Washington, D.C.-based Brookings Institution offering an innovative enrichment program for Clark County Public School students.

Students from around the county had an opportunity to meet on the UNLV campus to engage each other, teachers, UNLV professors, and Brookings fellows in a conversation about the critical issues that face Las Vegas, and the Intermountain West region.

This partnership builds upon the efforts that led to the creation of Brookings Mountain West, a collaboration between Brookings and UNLV that has been funded through a major private gift from the Lincy Foundation and other non-state sources.

"We are pleased to join with Brookings Mountain West in meeting our common goals-exploring the critical issues that face our community, and engaging students directly with those issues," said Kevin Cloud, Executive Director of the Dawson Center. "We are able to do that in two ways. First, we are helping to bring the perspective of Brookings experts to a broader range of community members. Second, this work will directly address a stated goal of UNLV and Brookings: to increase the involvement of research universities in addressing regional challenges. With programs like this, UNLV can take advantage of existing resources to directly address the needs of K-12 education."A second Saturday is planned in the the fall of 2010.
