Founded in 1957, the mission of the foundation is "to support educational organizations that prepare young adults to excel in college and society by providing the highest quality academic instruction and by developing self-respect, self-discipline and self-reliance through hard work, personal responsibility and respect for authority. By so doing, we strive to cultivate future leaders.”

In 1967 the foundation established the Colorado Junior Republic School (CJR) at Stapps Lake, Colorado. The school started as a summer school for underprivileged children. It was later expanded into a year-round school, and then converted to a college preparatory program as Alexander Dawson School in Colorado.
In 1999 the foundation built The Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain in Las Vegas. The school offers a rigorous, traditional liberal arts curriculum.
In 2008 The Alexander Dawson Foundation started GB Henderson Education (formerly know as Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning) with services in both Las Vegas and Colorado. The mission of the Henderson Foundation is to “provide and promote programs that meet the needs of high achieving students.”
