In January, the Supreme Court of Nevada threw out the Southern Nevada Water Authority's claim to tens of thousands of acre feet of water. In a statement, the SNWA, headed by general manager Pat Mulroy, said it was disappointed by the decision. Simeon Herskovits, representing pipeline opponents, issued a statement applauding the reversal of "an obviously unsound decision [by the State Engineer].” What do Pat Mulroy, Simeon Herskovits and the State Engineer have in common? They all worked with students during the Henderson Summer's (formerly Dawson Center’s) inaugural summer program. Students also have an opportunity to visit speakers and dynamic teachers throughout the area during scheduled field trips.

Participating in a panel discussion on KNPR's State of Nevada was just one of the ways that Henderon (formerly Dawson Center) Scholars were able to present what they had learned over the summer. Student work was featured in local and neighborhood newspapers, all of the local TV stations, and on news radio. A group of students were even asked to give a presentation at an international professional conference in Montreal. "The response that we received was gratifying," says Kevin Cloud, executive director. "I could not be prouder of these students, and I am happy that more people had the opportunity to see what the Dawson Center can add to our community."
